It sounds like the same kind of hair Bubba has. When he is in need of a cut, it curls and sticks out all over. I try to keep him in a westie or schnauzer like cut but right now it's getting colder so he looks like a puff ball at times. I cut them both myself because I feel much safer that way. I guess I read too much!
I use clippers on him and yes I've made mistakes but hey it's hair and grows back. Sissy on the other hand has silky straight hair so I keep her longer and just trim her with scissors.
