Allergic Reaction I'll just start from the beginning...
My Lola has always had a little dry skin and been itchy. Sometimes she would breakout with red spots on her belly but they would go away after a day or two and I just thought it was from her scratching. Almost 2 months ago, I came home one night and she had huge red welts all over her and was swollen in her private area. She was walking around the house like she was miserable and didn't know what to do. It kept spreading and even around her nose was noticeably red and her right eye was red and swollen. Her heartbeat was fast, she was warmer than usual, and vomited a few times. I freaked out because I had no idea what to do. I gave her benadryl and when she finally calmed down a little and went to sleep I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning, she was sleeping but when I woke her she would barely move. I immediately took her to the vet and she said she was almost in anaphylactic shock, her lungs were wet, and running a temperature. They gave her a benadryl and steroid shot and I had to leave her for the day so they could give her IVs and watch her very closely. Later that day the vet called me and said she may have been spider bit or stung by a bee. She stayed over night and had a rough night because she had to have the benadryl more often than normal and she stayed all of the next day. I brought her home with benadryl and prednisone. After all that was out of her system she was perfectly fine.
Thanksgiving night, she started breaking out and feeling bad again. It was nowhere near as bad as last time, but it was the same symptoms. My vet was out for the holidays but they had recommended an animal hospital for emergencies which is 2 hours away. I took her out there and they gave her an epi and steroid shot. She cleared up again and was acting normal but this morning she is broken out again. Not feeling bad at all. I'm planning on calling the vet when they open.
Has anyone experienced this? If it was a bee sting or spider bite last time, it shouldn't be happening again, right? I haven't had her tested but I'm going to ask about it today.
And this may sound crazy and have nothing to do with it, but I live with my parents and they smoke in the house. Could that be a bother to her and make her have a reaction like this? |
