I worked at a facility like that when I was in college.. I went to the DON, who visited only once a month...about the short staff...and CNA's double gloving and using doorknobs with used (You can imagine what they were used for.) gloves on. It was more like an assembly line...Dress as many as poss in AM...give as many meds as poss....feed as many... and hope that the ones with some self care skills do not feel too neglected... How I got through it was I told myself that at least I tried to be kind and give the best care I could while I was there...which was more than some were doing...and then took the next job I could outta there.. I wrote lots and lots of letters of complaint to the Health Department.
