GI issues can take time to heal and I got the impression the vet was not too worried about the continuing symptoms. She had faith in the vet and assumed for a few days that the ailment would go away. To be fair to the OP she was prepared to travel all that distance to see her vet again and I pray she did do that or see another vet who might do more tests and treat the dog.
One has to walk in her shoes before admonishing her. She may have issues at home or bad weather to contend with and the four hour round trip may be a real burden or hazard. We just don't know! I do think she was doing the best she could for her dog and was very concerned about his welfare.
Praying the the poor baby was seen today and that he is on the mend.
Excuse me, but there are no excuses to let a pup suffer and die. NONE You can make as many as you wish, but you know, these are live beings and I stand on this: after SEVEN days of vomiting and diarrhea, you cannot tell me there were no other options.

And, for another person to come here and excuse it meanwhile accusing me of admonishing? pfft

I am simply bringing to hers and everyone else's attention that this is a horrible way to let a pup be.

As to your first line: I cannot imagine it either. I would do one of two things...FIND a vet that I could get to OR not have a pet.
