Pink Daisy - We have had many threads on "Designer Dogs," and a lot of us think they are just fine. The term was coined by the media - and then it took off. A lot of these dogs are priced too high, but other than that a lot of these little dogs have been around for a long time.... small dog mixes, etc.

In fact, many people here on YT have these small mixes and love them to death. And, some people here have bred them or are breeding them.

Vets like them - thinking that they will tone down some of the faults and illnesses that many purebred dogs have.

Anyway - with love I'll say they are "darling little mutts" - I had Poodle/Pom myself that cost $250 (15 years ago - expensive at that time), and she was the best little dog I have ever owned. The term "designer dogs" hadn't been thought of at that time I bought her - she was just expensive because she was the product of "two expensive little purebreds." She did, however, cost less than the purebreds did then.

This is one of those controversial issues that goes crazy every time it's mentioned. But, I'm an easy going, not too critical person who thinks there's room in the world for all kinds of dogs --- and believe that both purebreds and mixes will be around forever. And both make wonderful pets.

Puppy mills seem to be latching onto and selling these little dogs - and that, as far as I am concerned, is a whole different issue. We know without a doubt or even mentioning it how we all feel about puppy mills. They will sell anything that they can make $$$$ off of.

I think some of these fast becoming-more-popular little mixed breeds are just darling (look at some of the ones owned here). They are just little mixes - many of which have been popular and have been a round for a long time.

And as far as price goes - if someone wanted to pay me $15,000 for my cat -consider it sold! I see $1000 designer dogs - and I've seen $10,000 Yorkies. People will always pay whatever they want to or can afford to pay for a pet.

Puppy mills - we never go there - they even sell Yorkies....
