Yes, I've had similar experiences and it is not surprising that the medication you have tried hasn't been successful. I have had no less than three specialists tell me that anti-anxiety medication is not often successful in small dogs and can actually escalate issues or create non-reversible personality changes. Therefore, these three specialists (from different practices) refused to prescribe any anxiety meds for my dog.

I would say that if the only thing your dog is doing is throwing up - don't worry too much. There is not a lot which can be done and as long as he's not hurting himself, you are doing the best you can do. The hardest part of this, for me, was accepting how my dog is instead of how I wanted him to be. The only other thing I can suggest is asking your vet about another dog. If this only started when your other one passed away, maybe another friend would help? I'd stress caution with this, though. You don't want 2 dogs with separation anxiety and one can't replace the other - it's just another angle to consider.

Keep your chin up..x
