As for the whining, this is most likely bc she has lost her initial "family" and is going thru a major transition now, which is confusing, scary, disorienting, frustrating, and triggering.
You may want to explore some calming sprays/balms and/or pheromone products like a pheromone collar or plug-in....these may help calm / soothe her quicker. Might be worth a try. |  The pheromone diffuser, yes! My brother rescued a Rat Terrier recently and the calming diffuser is helping with separation anxiety.
