after talking to people here, i decided to get bat on my puppies at 6 months to just to make sure they dont have it. i was paranoid too.. lol
one of my puppy, nami, was found to have luxating patella on both legs, and she's only 7 months old. i purchased her overseas from this show breeder. i was recommended her by other breeders i knew since they also purchased their dogs from her and was found healthy.
i dont know what it was.. maybe she was desperate on money. before i got nami, i asked her series of questions, and she said there was nothing wrong with her, and that she was perfectly healthy. but when she came to me, something wasn't quite right... her weight was off.. and vet thought she may have had luxating patella on one of her knees too, and i was referred to see a specialist. she was 5 months when she came to me.. i thought i'd wait to call the specialist since she was so young and i wanted her to gain some weight before anything, since she was only 2 lbs. (breeder said she was about 3lbs.. at the time)
when i confronted the breeder, she finally admitted saying that.. oh yeah she was found to have a little knee problem, but that shouldnt be any problem, most dogs get stronger and get over it... and she should be fine breeding, if she was to breed with a pup with good knees..
(seriously? wtf. i thought she'd atleast tell me not to breed her since lp is genetic and her pups are to have the same...)
2 months passed and i noticed that nami would limp and lift her leg more.. so i thought i'd give a specialist call and what do you know.. when i go in for consultation, she was found with luxating patella on both of her knees, both of them being grade 3.. .i thought my heart sunk. i almost broke out crying cuz i felt so bad for her.. today is only her 6th day after her operation and she seems to be healing well. the doctor i saw did really good work on her

now i just hope that she will be pain free and will live a normal dog life.
oh... when she was 6 months though, i did bat on her and she passed and she was found normal.. thank god...
but i'm sorry to rant... and i hope your puppy doesn't have luxating patella.. it just makes me furious now when there are irresponsible breeders lying and not taking any responsibilities for their pups..
