Teeth cleaning Poor Teddy, and YOU! It is always scary when our babies are put under, but in fact it is very rare for anything bad to happen. So please don't fret, he will be fine.
I hope you will have pre op blood and urine tests to check he is ok for the anesthetic. I am sure he will not have any health issues, but better to be safe than sorry.
I hated the long fasting period as my dog is always starving when he wakes up and can throw up bile if he is deprived of food. Often vets do not do dentals in the morning, but do them in the early afternoon after the more complex ops are done with. But that just may be my experience. That means the poor dog is starved for a longer time. Perhaps most dogs are not affected by this, but mine was.
I told the vet of my worries so he gave Austin a shot of Pepcid- type meds before the surgery, and it was great. My dog came home afterwards and was hungry that night, which is unusual for him after anesthetic. I had to feed only a small amount though!
Hoping your baby has good tests and the dentals go well. Perhaps it is you who will need the pre op calming Valium!
