My Bubba is the same way. In the summer when he is cut short he looks almost black on his body. As the hair grows it is silver with black roots.

I got so tired of my grey roots that I let it go to all grey. Every once in a while I think I should color it but then I remember what a pain it was keeping up with the roots.
