 potty re-training at 3 years old??
Alright so we have a 3 yr old yorkie/malteese named bandit and my wife potty trained him. Since we do not have a fenced in backyard she trained him by physically taking him outside early in the morning b4 we go to work, in the afternoon when we return from work, and any instances where he wants to go out at night. He does a great job of not pottying inside but this process is a hassle to say the least, especially in the mornings while we are standing there waiting on him to go so we can leave for work. He never pottys inside unless he does not poop in the morning before we leave for work, in that case we may find a surprise.
I want to retrain him to potty on his own outside without us physically outside and watching him. Would like tips on how to do this?
We have a pin for him that is about a 3.5ft by 3.5ft that we leave him in at night, what I am considering to start the retrain process is this: pin him at bedtime/night & during the day while we are at work open the door for him in the morning and afternoon before and afterwork and giving him a small treat each time he returns to the door. |
