I struggled with the same fears before spaying my 3 pound girl. I actually waited for her to gain to 3pds before I agreed to the precedure. She still seemed so tiny and I was panicking the morning of her surgery. I lost a tiny 12 yr old girl 2yrs ago not because of spaying but due to a wrong dicision I made. I will always see her going through her last days that came so suddenly. This was still in my thoughts making it even harder to put this tiny through surgery.
But I knew there could be a risk of cancer if I chose not to spay my new little girl. We had already lost a girl to cancer too. So I decided to go ahead and now I'm glad I did. Hopefully our girl will live a long and healthy life. She came through without any incidents spunky and mischievous as ever the next day.We had to keep her in her little crate to slow her down.
