Excellent suggestion/option!!! JUMP right on this!!!!!
Also, a lot of vets do NOT routinely have IV access on animals undergoing surgery....I always insist they have an IV during surgery, and continue post op until I pick the dog up...that will take care of fluid loss as well as sugar drop caused by stress from surgery.
