The last time I got on this site and encouraged someone to spay their little girl, dont worry, everything will be fine, blah, blah, blah....the dog died on the table from anesthesia overdose....so I have not from that day forward encouraged anyone to get their little babies spayed/neutered. THAT is just one more thing hanging around my neck that I wish was not there!
I will say, when I have gotten my babies spayed/neutered, each one was done individually....I have 3 tiny little girls here and none of them have been spayed. They are not around any males so this is not a problem....they seldom even go outside to the patio....strictly indoor babies...weighing in at a whopping 2 lbs.....
My vet is excellent and I have complete trust in her and her ability....but if something WERE to happen following my decision to have these girls spayed, I would never forgive MYSELF. This is a decision YOU have to make for yourself and your little dog. I do not have to worry about breeding issues....these tiny little dogs are not ever around males, and when in heat, I protect my furniture with tiny little panties for the girls!.....but if I had them all out and about in public, it may make a difference in my decision. In Europe, they do not spay/neuter their dogs like we do here...and they have this breeding and population explosion under control and their dogs live healthy long lives....I just read this in an article someplace.....I know for a fact a bunch of the spay/neuter hype here in the USA is to try to control the explosion of strays and pound puppies....apparently they have that issue under better control in Europe than we do? I sell all my puppies on a spay/neuter contract, for that very reason.....but I dont sell tinies, I keep them! I have had various numbers of altered/unaltered dogs all my life and they have all lived long lives....
So good luck with your decision....do what makes YOU comfortable with your decision and any outcomes you may have as a result of that decision. |
