My little was 13 and was in excruciating pain. For the last 3 weeks of her life she was on medication. It was the only relief. I held on too long. I thought was she was going to pull through but her little body couldn't take it anymore. She would have good days and bad days. On her good days she was sleep peacefully and I would think she is going to get past this. I took her to the vet but he said there's nothing that could be done. He did thankfully prescribe pain medication.

However, I will never use eating and drinking water as a barometer again. Brandi still ate normally, she never lost her appetite. I think because she was eating and drinking, it give me false hope.

I knew the minute her pain hit, I would have to give her pain meds prescribe by the vet. I think it was buprenorphine (not sure if that was it as this was about 2 years ago). It worked within minutes. It was like what morphine is to us. I was so glad that I was off work during that time.

The decision to wait so long haunts me to this day and I have asked her for forgiveness many many times. As long as they are not in pain I would never put them down but I will never again wait that long.
