My vet allows some watchers for some surgeries. As a matter of fact, she has a large glass window just around the corner from the lobby that overlooks the surgery suite. I've watched a dental on one of my dogs, and watched a spay surgery on another one.

I've paid from $500 up to $800 for dentals and my vet has a dental specialty. That included pre-surgery blood work, dental exrays and extractions. Cost will vary from vet to vet and area to area (I'm in the suburbs of Phoenix), but in my opinion you get what you pay for. If you're going for the cost of a dental, make sure your vet does dental exrays. Without them, it's hard to tell what's going on under the gum line and you may find yourself back for another dental sooner than you'd like if it's not done right the first time.

Once you get that dental done and are starting fresh with a nice, clean mouth, make sure you stay up with keeping the teeth in good shape. Good luck.
