If they are long enough to pin back but not long enough for a top knot, might try little clips or pins. Or even some beeswax to slick it back (can make it softer and more pliable by adding it into some hot oil like coconut or olive oil to the consistency of a lip balm or firmer). I'm currently trying to do that now, too ^^
