I have a 7 year old female yorkie who I absolutely love to death, but she is continuosly weeing and pooing on the carpets in the house- but only at night. she is well house trained and always goes outside during the day to do her business. We pick up her food at night at around 6 and take her outside to either wee or poo twice before bed time. during the night she still wakes us up about 2 times to take her outside but when we wake up in the morning we find that she has still wee'd or poo'd on the carpets in the house. we cannot afford to keep cleaning the carpets once a month.

also we leave a sliding door open at night onto a patio with grass on in order for her to go outside at night if she wants. when she either goes into the garden or onto the patio, we clap our hands and make her excited and give her a treat to tell her that she is very good and must continue to wee and poo in those places and when she goes inside the house, we show her the mess and shout and give her a hiding to say its bad.

please help with advice, I hate shouting and giving her a hiding everyday as it really makes me upset but I cant have her always making a mess in the house at night (especially considering that she has a door where she can go out at night and that we do still take her out above that).

What can I do to make her stop messing in the house during the night?? Please help as I am very desperate.
