Default Food for thought Yorkie Breeders

The Mystery of the "Bad Bite", Elementary, My Dear Watson by Diane Klumb - DORNDORF LONGHAIRED DACHSHUNDS

I sincerely hope, but doubt that there are many show Yorkie Breeders who peruse this site. But if you did - it is appalling that so very very many young yorkies 3 4 5 6 yrs old have to have teeth extractions due to bad bites and malocculsions and what-ever else is going on in this breed. It is almost unheard of at that age for a Blackie to lose teeth and by the time they are 6yrs old they are a senior - average age expectancy 10-13 yrs old. Oh don;t get me wrong we have our serious challenges too - hip and elbow dysplasia to name one. But bad bites not so much - and losing teeth not so much. Maybe because it is a DQ in the ring for a dog to be shown with a proper scissor bite and alll TEEETH intact and present.

Perhaps the above article will provide some understanding and hopefully a way forward.
