3 month old pup Rocky scratching himself bleeding!! My 3 month old yorkie pup has been scratching himself nonstop since we got him.
We had his nails clipped at first because he was scratching his ears bleeding and then used an antiseptic cream (I cant remember the name of it as we borrowed it from a friend) which seemed to help the wounds on his ears.
We just took him to the vet for his inoculation last week in which they examined inside his ears and found he had an ear infection. He gave me some ear drops to use for a week but the scratching hasnt stopped and now he has even started scratching just below his shoulder and I had noticed huge scabs. I left it for a few days to see if it would heal by itself.
This evening I noticed that he had scratched the scabs off and he now has an open wound which is red and looks very sensitive and looks like it is bleeding but isnt.
I have been researching online what to do about itchy skin and what antiseptic is safe to use on dogs but I have not reached anything I believe would be safe and I'm too scared to use something that might harm as he is still quite young.
Is there anything I use that I will have in South Africa that would be safe for him without having to take him to the vet as the ear infection had already caused us a large unexpected fee.
I have read that a bath in a saline solution works but I am worried that it might burn his scratches. |
