High fat and high protein are two dietary issues that can be variables in a dog prone to pancreatitis. One of my dogs got pancreatitis at age 5 from a higher fat meal (although not excessively high by any means). He had a second episode at age 10, and was placed on 3% fat for life with moderate protein. He's now 15 and we have not had any other issues. My other dog had her first bout of pancreatitis at 14.5 years old - elderly onset! It came on fast and furious and resolved just as fast. She eats a low fat moderate protein diet so the cause is unknown.
I think there are a lot of Yorkies that seem to get pancreatitis and you don't know what could set it off. I think it is prudent to not overdo the fat and keep junk food out of the dog. They really don't even need treats. Mine eat their meals and an occasional cookie (fruitables, apple flavor) or they have raw or lightly steamed veggies as treats. I feed my two younger dogs 85% lean beef all the time, all my dogs eat chicken thighs with skin removed, and fatty salmon.
