Just a little clarification....
NG tubes are often passed in patients with pancreatitis. It is not to bypass the pancreas, because food does not go through the pancreas. The purpose is to let the pancreas rest. The pancreas aids in digestion and also produces insulin. I doubt they are feeding her through a tube...the tube was probably inserted due to her having problems with nausea and vomiting.

I think since she has been so ill, it is going to take a bit of time for the pancreas to recover from the inflammation. My guess is she is on IVs and pain meds....and no food for now. I have seen patients in the hospital for up to 2-3 weeks with pancreatitis. It is an extremely painful condition. The first thing she will have at some point will be clear liquids...but that will not happen until her amylase and lipase are showing some improvement (which would indicate the pancreas is recovering).
