We have a similar dilemma with our Teddy. He reacts to the flea preventatives and he reacts strongly to a single flea. Luckily, we have had very few fleas. We just do extra grooming, extra vacuuming and washing.
The vet gave us a topical med for when Teddy does have a flea bite.
I don't know what we will do if we run into a real problem with fleas.
