If the puppy is 12 weeks or older that will make it easier to sort out some potential problems. One thing I would suggest is to get a full blood panel done that checks things like liver, thyroid, and kidney functions etc. Unfortunately a general puppy check where the vet only looks at the outside of the puppy does not really show things like liver shunt, blood work will help but still not guarantee you will be free from health issues.
Also because some others have problems with the breeder does not mean you will. For example while I would never buy from a pet store others have and while some people have gotten sick dogs some have not.
Personally I bought Lola from a backyard breeder that most YT members would not approve of, I did that because I did not want to pay an arm and a leg for a puppy but I did know the risks. I bought her at 14 weeks and had a full blood panel done the day after I brought her home, so far at almost 5 years old she has been healthy. I often say buying a puppy even an expensive one from a breeder that health tests (been there done that) is still a crap shoot. Good luck and hopefully your pup will be free of health issues
