You shouldn't be able to get heart worm meds without a prescription. You really should only have to go to the vet once a year for heart worm meds. You get blood work yearly to check for heart worms and then you can generally buy a year worth of the meds at the vet. You shouldn't have to take them monthly. I know a year or so ago they were saying to be careful because some places where selling counterfeit products. I feel better just getting it from my vet.
