Don't know how old you are but.. hopefully, you know how much it takes to take care of a dog. And how it's nothing like caring for a cat.

Money is a big factor too so as Mayzoo mentioned, I think it would help your cause if you find a way to earn money or save your allowances exclusively for the pup. Perhaps draw up a contract that lists what you'll be responsible for when it comes to the pup. (like walking x number times a day, feeding, potty training, etc) And if you don't follow through, you and your dad can come up with the consequences.

Alot of the issues I see is when the child wants a pup and "promises" to take care of him/her but ultimately, the duties fall on the parents. Perhaps that's what your dad might be concerned with?
