Blazer pretty much taught himself how to ring the bell. I had decorated for Christmas and had hung some bells on the door. He had a habit of sitting behind the couch, at the door when he wanted to go out. When I'd ooe the door I would ask, "Do you want to go outside and go potty?" and the bells would ring. Soon enough he would jump up and ring them himself so I'd praise him, ask the same question, and take him out. He got to the point that if our big dog was laying by the door (as he did when he wanted to go out) Blazer would jump up and hit the bells for him. When we go stay at other people's houses I try to remember the bells and make sure to show Blazer where I'm hanging them so he knows which door to go to to get my attention.
