Patience!!! She is scared and lost and feels like she has been abandoned by the people she has been with for 4-5 years! Start her out in a kennel, because she is used to that and will be more secure there....leave the door open so she can come and go as she pleases. Feed her what she is used to eating....you can worry about changing her diet after she is settled in and is comfortable with you in 4-5 months. Give her distilled water so the change in water from what she is used to getting, to the water in your part of town will not cause her to have diarrhea....you start out with distilled and over 2-3 weeks, slowly start switching/adding water she will be drinking into the bottled distilled water, until she is completely on the water she will be drinking living with you. Take it easy, move slowly, let her adjust to you and get used to you....move at HER speed.....she will come around! Congratulations on your new little lady....allow her to hide out in a cave type crate which is what she is used to, and she will be fine....just takes time! |
