I agree with the above posters, start a doggie savings acct. now. If you can afford $150-$200. a month or what ever amount you can afford start it now, at least you'll have small nest to start off with. I do not have health ins on my pup, but I do save every month what I call "just in case $" which is not necessarily just for the dog, it's for those unexpected things in life, but it's there for my baby should I need it. My now passed 17 y/o girl had no health ins. it cost me thousands of $ in the last 2 years of her life. But did not put me in a hole, but it is nice to have a bit of "just in case cash" to ease a large vet bill.
