Default getting older....

Hi! So I've got a 10 year old Yorkie named Meily, she's about 7 pounds and still acts like a puppy. However I'm starting to be a little concerned about the future, since she's getting older... this year she had a mysterious illness that took her to the emergency room for a 24 hour stay to be rehydrated, which cost about $1000. Most of the time, I don't really have money to spare, so after reading some stories on here about aging Yorkies and their health problems I'm concerned about what kind of state she could put me in, financially, if she at some point quits the graceful aging and develops bigger problems. She's not insured or anything. I've also got a cat, one year older than her, who cost me several hundred to have some teeth removed at the same time Meily had her health problem. Right now I'm almost out of a huge debt hole that I never want to get into again, but vet bills can very easily drag a person back into one. In fact, if it hadn't been for my cat and dog, I'd probably be out of that hole right now! lol

Anyway... I'm wondering what I can do to prevent or prepare for age-related sicknesses that I may not be able to afford. So far, so good, but.... things happen. How do you folks with older Yorkies manage to afford their health problems?
