I don't know that we have anyone here from NYC here but maybe you could contact a NYC Yorkie breed club, ask for contact info for reputable show breeders to contact, contact some of them, explain you are interested in finding out if they sell pet-quality dogs to those of the public who meet their specs and how to access their waiting list, etc. Eventually you should be able to wrangle a meeting or two or three. Size them and their dogs up. Network with them to find leads to other respected, reputable breeders who maybe don't show but still breed excellent dogs and go from there.
