I use a training lead. I have a 30 foot one. It is like fabric so not a lot of weight to it. My Yorkies can run all over on it. Sometimes I hook one of the puppies to each end of it and they can play and wrestle all over the yard, but if I need to grab them I can grab any part of the 30 foot lead and have them.

I ordered mine off Amazon and it was not all that pricey, I think under $15. I also use this for training as well. I can have one person hold it and take the dog to one side of the yard and then I can go to another side and call the dog to me and they can come, but if they try to take off we still have control of them. I use it for my older Yorkie as well and just hook the end of it under my lawn chair I am sitting in, usually in the middle of my yard. He can wander all over the yard that way without me worrying about him wandering off.

They are very useful to have.
