Oops, hit post before I intended too. I did also want to say that I see people at the craft fairs I do with their little dogs in their carriers or hanging from the packs and they do not look happy to be there at all. I think they would all rather be snoozing in their comfy soft little beds. Sure they are well behaved, but what choice do they have?

I used to take Griff, my big German Shepherd to work sometimes. I worked in an office at a trucking company and he liked to be there and get all the love when the guys came in. Plus, I did feel safer. The owner had three little Maltese that were obnoxious and a royal pain. But of course they could do no wrong, and were allowed to run around and well, you can imagine. Luckily she was not there often. Griff would lie quietly behind my chair and never cause a problem. I guess my point is that big dogs do not poo and all that everywhere they go. And little dogs can be just as much a problem. I think it is really not the dogs at all, it is the owner.

I also used to take Griff with me to my sons BMX practices. He was always on a leach and under control. We did it for protection more then anything else because the track was not in a great part of town. I also ran the practice so I kinda made the rules. Now, I had no problem when others brought their dogs as long as they were on a leach and well behaved. But there would be people that would bring a little dog and let it run all over. If it got on the track it could a cause major wreck and kids could get hurt and it could get killed. Once a gal brought a little chi to the track and it barked and snapped at Griff. He ignored it for the longest time, then just turned and looked at it. No bark, no snarl, no growl. The gal snatched up her "baby" and acted like its life had been threatened. Why? Yes, Griff could have snapped up that little monster like it was nothing, but he didn't. HE has been trained not too. Plus he actually loves little animals. Any kind.

I guess it all boils down to manners. If your dog has manners, and can behave, then it should be allowed wherever, but if it has to be stuffed in a carrier or on the end of a huge chain to control it, then it should be left at home.
