I would dab a touch of antibiotic cream (slightly different from the ointment) on it a couple times a day for a few days. Just don't let him lick it off. I keep a tube of it for my doggies in their grooming bag just in case I need it for something. It will help keep out infection. Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't look infected.

I am sorry this happened to you. I have a neighbor that has a huge black lab that is not nice. He will charge at me and try to attack me. If I have my big dog with me he will back right down, but if it is just me and the little dogs he will come after me (not the dogs). The neighbor is a really nice guy, but he has no idea what his dog is like when he is loose and he just lets him out the door and doesn't watch him. I wish people would take more responsibility for their pets.
