make sure your pup is not getting too many treats or picking up dropped baby cookies (maybe not a factor to consider at your house but always one to watch at mine!) because those tiny little tummies fill up fast!
My girl has always been a finicky eater. There are a lot of good foods out there but it seemed like no matter what kind I tried even if she seemed to like it for a minute, she would just stop and I would worry she was starving. If your dog doesn't seem to like anything the way mine did, I would suggest you pick a brand you trust and do what you can to encourage her to eat it.
Fish oil supplements are good for your dogs skin and coat and can sometimes make an otherwise unappealing meal seek delicious to your dog. We use ark naturals salmon and borage oil with vitamin e, called omega mender itch ender- there are a lot of other fish oil supplements available though. Nupro makes a great supplement that is a powder you mix with water to be like a gravy- I was really impressed with their product and how much lilah liked it! I got samples at an animal supply show and I really should have looked into where I could buy it- her response to it (especially because she isn't a big eater) knocked my socks off. A lot of people use coconut oil as a coat supplement and say their dogs love it, lilah wasn't impressed but maybe your boy would like that drizzled on his food. I think if you start brain wracking you will be surprised at all you come up with to help make a less appealing meal suddenly seem fun and interesting.
Despite a lot of debate about royal canin food- and there is a lot of debate- I decided to rely on the advice of trusted, hard working and dedicated breeders and try that brand after nearly two years of struggles with getting food into my baby and although rc's yorkie food didn't work for us, their mini adult really did. We also used the rc mini puppy appetite stimulant wet food. Unfortunately, lilah did seem to lose interest again (after about six months which is the longest time she had ever stick with a good so it really is a big deal) so we are doing some first mate small breed chicken and blueberries for a while but rc and its high recommendation by yt breeders is still at arms reach for us and has been what worked the very best for us so far as far as consistency and her willingness to eat it.
Lastly- and I know this is getting lengthy now!- don't forget how tiny those tummies are and make sure you are being considerate of your feeding amount and what else may or may not be cutting into the daily quantity your baby should be getting. Measure measure measure! Good luck!
