I adopted a yorkie (Brandi...RIP)and she was extremely skittish when I first brought her home. As soon as she saw my cat she rolled over on her back in a submissive position. It was the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen. She stuck to me like white on rice because she was so scared. In fact she was so scared, she was afraid to fall asleep.
Fast forward a few months, and the little skittish yorkie had turned into a bona fide diva with all of the accompanying attributes. She started to boss the cat around, she bossed me around. I will admit I indulged her every whim because she had such a rough life the first 7 years of her life. So I spoiled her like crazy.
She never did learn how to play and I attribute that to her being used for breeding and kept in a crate most of the time. It was okay because I was able to find other things she enjoyed like walking and going to the dog park. But most of all her favorite thing in the world was to simply cuddle up with me. With lots of love and patience, she had transformed from a little skittish yorkie to a diva. |
