Mario was neutered before I could pick him up from the pound. He is about a year old. He did really well with minimal pain meds for 2 days and no cone.. I gave pain meds if he appeared to need it or not since it so hard to tell if they are pain at his age; the need to play overrides the pain. I stayed home with him, and told him no when he tried to lick the incision area. He caught on quickly, and just left it alone.
My mother was going to adopt a pup, and the shelter and vet told her she needed to get it spayed/neutered (don't recall the gender) at 6 weeks of age. It was a small dog, but not as small as a yorkie. I told her no way, you need to wait until at least until it is 6 mo old so the bones will have had enough time to mature.
She picked another dog, since this shelter would not release it unless she fixed it ASAP. |
