That poor officer was stood over and shot repeatedly like an animal. On the surface, it sounds very much like a hate-crime - like he was killed because he wore a badge!
Will never get the hate-on there is for cops lately, with media hounds rushing to the site of a killing by a cop and are soon joined by any number of people showing up, wanting to drum up anti-cop sentiment, when the majority of the time the person had committed a crime and was fleeing, resisting or otherwise failing to comply with the cop. And cops never know what they're walking into when they approach a person on the street. Who of us, when their very life is on the line, wouldn't be over-anxious, occasionally over-react and misjudge at times as no amount of training can really prepare you for the actual moment of truth when a cop thinks he could be about to die. Except for the one or two cases where there seems to be little doubt that the cop just snapped and actually murdered, who wouldn't have reacted the same way as they did in most cases where the suspect is failing to follow orders and worse, is coming after them to try to kill them?
If one doesn't like how cops treat them, quit committing crimes and most of all, just quit calling 911 and handle things yourselves is the only answer I can see. So many seem to hate the very cops they constantly call to their neighborhood for help! Don't know how cops can't afford to hesitate when it could mean they don't go home to their little sons and daughters if they don't react in time. Criminals mostly seem to have nothing to lose and cops know that, have that in their minds that the person they are about to interact with holds life too cheaply. I pray the current climate of cop-hate ends and cops, who are largely carrying out the orders of their leadership and precinct captains, when it comes to traffic stops and rounding up petty criminals off street corners, are seen as the heroes they are. They are ALL that stands between us and total anarchy. What will happen if they become too timid to act or react too slowly? If I were a cop in today's climate of hate, I would probably hold back out of pure self-preservation.
