I hate to leave my babies home. If I am a couple days without my babies sleeping with me I am ready to go home. My last vacation was 10 days and I had my 2 Yorkies with me. My daughter also has a yorkie and her puppy was with her while she was gone for nearly a month over the summer at the same time I was gone.
However, I watch my friend's dogs (or did until I got 4 dogs of my own and not sure I could handle more here now!) and believe me, your dog will be fine. With 2 kids in the house that the dog loves they will take care of him. I am sure your neighbors will keep the dog safe and happy.
Have a good trip and your puppy will be happy to see you when you get home.
