I have a friend who has 1 chihuahua and 5 Yorkies and they all get along very well. I believe... and I could be wrong in the order that they had 2 of their yorkies (girls) and then they got the chihuahua (male) and then got the next Yorkie (male) and then 2 more female Yorkies. Their pack all gets along very well. It will most likely take time for the older dog to accept the new one, but be patient and it will probably work out. I had a 9 year old Yorkie and brought home 2 Yorkie puppies in May and they are all the best of friends now! It did take time and at first I felt terrible because my 9 year old yorkie acted like I broke his little heart by bringing these puppies in. That only lasted a week or two and he suddenly was interested in the puppies and another couple weeks and he was playing with them.

Always allow your older dog to escape from the new dog and retreat to a safe place, my Yorkie headed for the top of the couch to escape little teeth and claws and being pounced on. Sometimes he would come off the couch to eat and get pounced on from both sides and he didn't know what to do and I would dash in and lift him out of the mess of dogs and he would snuggle into my arms for saving him and I would put him back on his perch on the couch. Once he learned how to deal with them though, they all wrestle and play and I am so glad I brought home the puppies because he is happier (and younger acting) than he was before I got the puppies. You just have to get through that initial phase of your dog being mad at you with patience and understanding and it will all work out. I made sure I gave my older dog one on one time and for the first month he remained the only dog in our bed so he had special time with me.
