I also had the honor of naming another foster who sadly passed away a few years ago. He was very small and was found as a stray. I can't believe he survived on the streets. He was so matted he had to be completely shaved down and he looked like a chihuahua bc of it. When I went to pick him up to go home I was talking to him trying to come up with a name. I immediately thought of Scraps (from Corpse Bride) bc he was SO skinny and Scrappy (as in Scrappy Doo from Scooby Doo) bc he was tough, so it stuck. And as you can see from my signature, his name just grew and grew and he kept "earning" titles. El Lenguo and the Handicaped Ninja are esp my faves. |
Why don't you change your name then? I go by a nickname, I have for many many years (Jade) and I am actually just about to go and get my name legally changed to it. It isn't too far off my real name and I just prefer Jade. I would change toto to Toro, the dog probably wouldn't even notice. I took in a rescue several years ago named Gabby who was named after some little kid show I had never heard off, Like Yo, Gabby Gabby or something like that. My husband looked at her and said, how about Abby, from NCIS. Yup, she never noticed the difference in her name without the G and eventually realized that when I called her Abigail, I was talking to her. We would come up with covert nicknames for someone to go check on her and after a while she would realize those were here too. Rainbow, Crayola, Sparkles (she was mostly white) and she would always catch on, but if we said "Go see what Abby is doing." She would come running and we never saw what she was into, so we would say "Go see what Sparkles is doing." Then one of the kids could sneak up on her, for a while, then a new code name would be suggested.
My Yorkie rescue Teek, he is so slow on walks too. It is hard to walk him with the puppies because he is a little old man on walks, but play with him and he will run around like crazy.
