Another frustrating aspect of not having updates is that the thread isn't helpful for future readers who have dogs facing the same problem.
For instance, when Max had his eye problems, I found lots of threads dating back to the beginning of YT. The majority of them had zero updates about the treatment or the results. It would have been helpful to read, "We did xyz, and here is how it turned out."
There is an emotional and educational benefit to updating Sick & Injured threads, and training and other experiences. I do think there has been an improvement over time with the number of people who do update.
