The newer drugs don't have the side effects of the older ones. My dog takes zonisamide and has been on it for almost 5 years and we haven't had any side effects or problems. You could ask to try that one instead but keppra is pretty mild too from what I understand. Perhaps your dog really does need an MRI and spinal tap.
