we've had Madlyn for 3 weeks now, and she's almost 13 weeks old, so she's just coming out of her shell, or should I say gnawing out of it and everything around her. My giant Sumo yorkie, Toby, only took about 5 days to accept her, and we had to remind him quite often not to be too rough with her. Now she's just as feisty as him and i have to save him from HER. Izzy on the other hand has taken until about two days ago to finally interact with her in a manner that didn't include level 10 hostility. We just made it a point to pet her adoringly and praise her like crazy whenever the pup came near her or touched her. that went on for some time. Pup learned to kind of steer clear of her mostly, but her bravery and perseverance paid off finally because Izzy has actually started playing with her here and there. And remember when they play that part of her learning includes learning her limits and what lines she can and cannot cross with all other creatures around her. So the pup is going to be put in her place time after time. This is learning. When they finally interact, just make sure to not let the puppy overwhelm your firstborn too much. short intervals are key. By the way, izzy is a little jumpy now, overly anxious about being bitten on out of the blue I suppose, so she jumps and yelps for nothing a lot whenever Madlyn gets close to her while she's sleeping. But they actually play now, ganging up on Toby together has bonded them. So just be patient and it will work itself out. Thats all I have for now.
