Could also be a sign of constipation which, when left untreated, can cause other problems. It would be a good idea to visit the vet if there has been no signs of improvement in the last 24-72 hours. Even with improvement, if there is a reoccurrence following improvement, no matter the time span, a vet check would be a good idea as the issue may be down to other things as previous posters have mentioned.
