I was given a 9 year old Yorkie in January of this year. Him and I became very close. I had already been told that when/if puppies were born to a friends dog I would be given one, but had no idea when that would happen. In March they were born and I let my daughter pick the one she wanted since I had a new dog. Well, I fell in love with one of the puppies and we ended up bringing home 2 new puppies in May.

My 9 year old Yorkie who was very close to me, well he acted like I broke his heart by bringing these puppies home. I would spend extra time with him and love him and it hurt me to think that I hurt him so badly. However, about 2-3 weeks after the puppies arrived (they were siblings so always had each other) my older guy started following them around while they played. Another week or so and he was trying to join in. If there was one on one time with him and my puppy (also a male) they would play. My 9 year old Yorkie taught the puppy how to play tug of war!

Fast forward to now and the two boys are very close to each other. My puppy is the puppy that gets along with everyone. He loves his sister (who is very bossy) and loves my older Yorkie and also loves my husband's 80 lb English Setter. The girl puppy has not been here for nearly a month. Her and my older Yorkie don't spend as much time together but they were really starting to play a little before she left for the summer. The girl puppy does not even try to get along with the setter, she just ignores him.

I think having 2 is better because they always have someone else. They are not alone all the time. My puppy does not chew stuff because if he is bored the older Yorkie plays with him.

Having one was nice, but having more is so much more fun!

Do consider that it may take time for them to bond. I really felt terrible after I brought the puppies home because my older Yorkie was so hurt, but now he wrestles and plays with the puppy and it was all worth it! If one goes somewhere they both want to go. The girl puppy fits in differently because she is always with my daughter, so even when she is home that puppy isn't around mine all day because she is off with her. She sleeps in my daughter's room where my 2 boys sleep curled up with me. Although my puppy loves his sister I think he is now more bonded to my older yorkie. The older Yorkie keeps him out of trouble too!
