First, don't use the crate as a place of punishment -- the crate is supposed to be a safe, cozy, nice place for them - not a form of punishment. Nor would a dog even make the connection of "oh, I'm being placed in my crate for doing a bad thing" -- they can't do that kind of thinking. You should place some nails or pennies in a can and the moment she nips, shake that can hard - so that it startles her and say "NO". You could also buy the Bark Genie and use that instead - but don't overuse it on her.
