I did go through this. In Teddy's case they thought he had a retrobulbar abscess and prescribed him antibiotics. It didn't work and they had him in for a CT scan and they had to chip away at bone in his mouth to open the area. When they opened it, it gushed out salivary fluid. This was unusual. In most cases a retained part of the tooth root is left behind. This will need some imaging or could lead to problems of the area isn't drained in the right spot.
