Question Lingering questions

My 3 year old Yorkie died very suddenly early July of acute Pancreatitis. I just can't wrap my mind around how quickly he fell ill and the severity of it. We treated him aggressively at an emergency vet hospital in Annapolis, Maryland. He had ultra sound and plasma transfusions, as well as, pain management. I don't understand how a seemingly healthy, playful, and happy dog could fall ill so fast and die within 4 days. I ask myself over and over if it was something we did. Could it have been a genetic defect? I believe he came from a puppy mill or backyard breeder. We bought him at a pet store. I have since done much research and know how disreputable these breeders are. I would NEVER buy form a pet store again! Most of what I learned, I learned here from this community. I was ignorant about puppy mills when I fell in love with him. Regardless, he was a wonderful friend and we loved him very, very much. Do any of you have experience with Pancreatitis and do you have any thoughts about why this happened? I miss him terribly----he was my joy!
