always hold the pups ears down so no water gets in them,you can put a small piece from a cotton ball in the ears, but, one shake of the head the cotton balls can come out, I hold the ears down flat against the head, keep soap out of the eyes, they sell a no tear shampoo, tilt pups head up to rinse from head.
